A shocking video has circulated online showing the aftermath of an attack on an Asian man in the middle of a New York City street in broad daylight.

According to a report from ABC7, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The video starts just as bystanders begin to intervene and stop the attack.

“I’m gonna kill you! I’m gonna kill somebody, get out of my face,” the alleged attacker yells. “Get the f**k outta here! Racists!”

As bystanders try to calm the suspect down, the woman filming approaches the Asian man, who is holding the left side of his head. “Sir, are you okay? Do you want me to call the police?” she asks.

Though the man tries to brush off the incident, the woman responds, “No, I mean, he hurt you. He pushed you against the window. Are you okay?” Another woman holds the victim’s right arm in an attempt to comfort him.

“Call 911 right now,” another male witness says. After it appears the suspected attacker has left, the video ends with other bystanders checking to see if the Asian man is okay.

Security footage of the attack obtained by ABC7 shows the suspect closely following the man, despite his efforts to get away on the sidewalk. The attacker then throws him against a glass storefront and chases him down to the street corner.

The footage made its way to Reddit as well, with many in the comments praising the actions of the brave bystanders. “As an Aussie, this is what I hope NY is like. ‘Won’t make eye contact but will step in if s**t goes down,'” one wrote. “Hail to all the good people out there. Ashamed of all the idiots in our society,” another added.

The police have not yet determined if this was a hate crime, although according to a report from the Center for the Study of Hate & Extremism at California State University, targeted anti-Asian attacks have increased this year by nearly 150 percent.

Just last month, a man was caught on camera pulling an Asian American woman’s hair in Brooklyn. Two weeks ago, another Asian American woman was attacked on her way to a Manhattan church.
