Republicans Fight Against The New Mask Mandate

Published

House Republican lawmakers recently gathered together, marched across the Capitol and entered the Senate floor to show that they vehemently disapprove the reinstatement of mask-wearing. The rally was a response to Capitol physician Brian Monahan’s decision to bring about new mask rules due to a surge in COVID-19 infections, including a majority who were afflicted by the delta variant.

About 40 maskless GOP leaders joined the demonstration to protest the unfair enforcement of the mask mandate in the lower chamber, while excluding the upper chamber from following such oppressive rules.

Rep. Ronny Jackson, former President Trump’s White House physician, said in an interview with The Hill, that the Republicans just wanted to show “what it was like on the floor of the Senate versus the floor of the House. Obviously, it’s vastly different.”

The Texas Republican believes that the senators “have the freedom to speak without their mask on and be in there and it’s not near as restrictive as it is on the House side. It makes no sense.”

Senator Mike Lee of Utah, who delivered a speech about personal freedom, was also joined by Rep. Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina, Marjorie Taylor-Greene of Georgia, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Colorado’s Lauren Boebert, and Louie Gohmert and Chip Roy of Texas, to name a few.

Earlier this week, after Democrat house speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the reinstatement of the mask mandate, the Republicans criticized the rival party for their restrictive rules that contradict with the vaccine’s supposed efficacy in protecting the inoculated.

“The Democrats are back at it again – whatever it takes to put you back into lockdown,” she said in a video shared to Twitter. “Now we hear that Speaker Pelosi is going to have people arrested if they do not wear a mask. I don’t know about you, I’ve not heard one valid reason that a person who has been vaccinated should be forced to wear a mask.” Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee stated via twitter.

“Keisha Lance Bottoms will let thugs burn down Atlanta, gun each other down in the street, and refuse to do a damn thing. But when the CDC says jump, she says how high and rushes to impose a mask mandate. NO.” Former Rep. Vernon Jones, slams Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.

“In today’s edition of Pelosi’s abuse of power, Capitol Police have been directed to arrest staff and visitors to comply with her mask mandate for vaccinated individuals,” Rep. Kat Cammack of Florida tweeted.
