Powerball Results, Numbers for 03/24/21: Did Anyone Win the $220 Million?

Published

on

The winning numbers in Wednesday night’s Powerball lottery were 4, 9, 17, 27, and 38, and the Powerball was 18. Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot was an estimated $220 million with a cash option of $147.8 million, but did anyone win?

Nobody won the jackpot, so it will roll over to Saturday night’s lottery draw where it will be worth an estimated $238 million with a cash option of $159.8 million.

However, one player from Washington state matched all five numbers and won $1 million, and 20 players matched four numbers and the Powerball and won $50,000 each. Five players also matched four numbers and the Powerball but used the Power Play, which was 2X, and won $100,000 each.

More than 1,900 players won $100 each, either by matching four numbers or three numbers and the Powerball, and more than 600 players did the same using the Power Play, winning $200 each.

Around 55,000 players won $7 each by matching either three numbers or two numbers and the Powerball while more than 17,500 players won $14 with the Power Play.

Finally, more than 500,000 players won $4 by matching either one number and the Powerball or just the Powerball, while just 151,000 players won $8 with the Power Play.

The next Powerball drawing will take place on Saturday at 11 p.m. ET and the jackpot will be worth an estimated $238 million.

To take part in the Powerball lottery, players must purchase a ticket from a licensed lottery retailer for $2 per play, with the option of adding the Power Play to their ticket for an additional $1 per play. The Power Play will multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10 times, though the Match 5 + Power Play prize is always $2 million and the 10X multiplier is only in play when the advertised jackpot is $150 million or less.

Sales deadlines vary by jurisdiction but the cut-off is typically an hour or two before the drawing.

Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and more than half of all proceeds from the sale of a Powerball ticket remain in the jurisdiction where the ticket was sold.

When a player wins the jackpot, they can claim their prize as either an annuity or as a lump-sum payment. The annuity option will pay the winner 30 graduated payments over 29 years, with each payment increasing by five percent.

Alternatively, the cash option is equivalent to the cash in the lottery pot, so is of a lesser value than the annuity, but it is paid out in one go. The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9, and the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
