A mother and daughter who killed a man after he broke into their Los Angeles County home and started attacking his ex-girlfriend will not face any charges, police have confirmed.

The Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department said they are continuing to assist the South Pasadena Police Department with their investigation into the death of a man in his forties on Saturday morning.

South Pasadena officers were called to the 500 block Five Oaks Drive, South Pasadena, following reports of a domestic violence incident in progress.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the front window of the property shattered and could hear the sound of a woman screaming coming from inside.

“They were well within their right to act in defense of their sister and daughter,” Hall said.

The female victim, who has not been identified, was transported to the local hospital and treated for facial injuries and has been released.

Under California state law, a person is within their legal right to use fatal force in their own home if they are defending themselves or anyone else within the property from someone who had entered the home intending to commit an act of violence.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has been contacted for further comment.
